Real Talk Julie Rohr Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2021 by Real Talk Ryan Jespersen and Relay Communications Group Inc., in honour of Real Talk Editorial Board founding member Julie Rohr. Julie passed away September 16, 2021 at 39 years of age after bravely battling Leiomyosarcoma for more than six years.

Awarded annually, the scholarship provides a one-time contribution of $5,000 to a post-secondary student in Canada who lost a parent to cancer. To qualify, the student must be registered in good standing at an accredited Canadian college or university. Special consideration may be given to students enrolled in journalism. The recipient will be selected by the Real Talk Editorial Board in consultation with Julie’s family.

Application deadline is August 1st. The award will be announced in late August, and must be accepted in writing within ten days of notification. Applicants will be required to provide two letters of reference, and proof of enrollment at an accredited post-secondary school in Canada. The winning applicant will be required to provide additional supporting documentation.
